Master Chef
First there was Latina food personality Ingrid Hoffmann on the Food Network. Now its Boricua cuisine master Wilo Benet's turn to dish up gourmet Puerto Rican fare on stateside TV.
Benet will participate in Bravo Network's food reality competition show Top Chef Masters, a spin-off of Bravo's Top Chef series, along with 24 other world-renowned culinary contestants.
The show throws contestants through “quickfire” competitions such as making hors d'œuvres out of vending machine goodies. Then they face elimination challenges with unique culinary trials. The winner is crowned Top Chef Master and receives $100,000 for his or her favorite charity. Benet is competing for the San Jorge Children's Research Foundation.
Benet is an innovator in Puerto Rican cuisine. He owns three popular restaurants—Pikayo, Payá, and most recently, Varita. Benet also authored “Puerto Rico True Flavors,” a cookbook that won an International Latino Book Award.
Top Chef Masters airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. on Bravo. —F.M.F.
